ABOUT
Called “one of the brightest and most accomplished young performers in today’s contemporary orchestral and chamber ensemble world”, Isaac Raven masterfully engages his musicianship in performance, composition and instruction/education. He performs on classical/jazz piano and saxophone. Raven enjoys writing music for a variety of mediums including small & large chamber ensembles, solo piano & saxophone performance, video games, and short film segments. He currently teaches at Brawerman West Elementary, a private school located in West Los Angeles, as well as Cornerstone Music Conservatory. He has taught several music theory and aural skills classes and seminars at Santa Clara University and the University of Southern California in his Teaching Assistantship programs. Raven currently holds a Masters of Music in Performance from the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music, as well as a Bachelors of Art in Music Composition and Theory, and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Santa Clara University. He is currently pursuing his Doctorate of Musical Arts in Music Teaching and Learning at the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music.

COMPOSITION
Raven enjoys composing for solo and chamber ensembles. Of this, he writes for classical and contemporary genres, and works in multimedia musical composition including video games, short films and cinematics. He composes music using both notation software (Sibelius, MuseScore, Finale) and Digital Audio Workstations (Cubase, Logic Pro X, Ableton, and Pro Tools).

PERFORMANCE
Raven has a fruitful career in musical performance with classical and jazz saxophone, as well as classical piano in orchestral, chamber and solo settings. He has performed with several groups including the Los Angeles American Youth Symphony, the San Jose Youth Symphony, the USC Thornton Wind Ensemble, the USC Symphony, the Santa Clara Choral, the Santa Clara University Chamber Singers, wind ensemble and orchestra, as well as various chamber groups across the west coast. Raven has made appearances on world-renowned stages including Carnegie Hall, Walt Disney Concert Hall, and the Davies Symphony Hall for a variety of musical performances. He currently leads the Los Angeles-based Kintsugi Saxophone Quartet.

INSTRUCTION

Studio Private Instruction – Classical Piano, 15 years I currently run a private studio of 22 students. I have been teaching classical piano lessons to students of all ages within the greater communities of Los Angeles. My teachings are highly weighted on the integration of music theory, aural skills, musicianship, performance etiquette, and classical piano history. I host two recitals a year and enter my students in MTNA performance competitions upon request. Rates for lessons upon request. Feel free to fill out a form on the bottom of this page. Studio Private Instruction - Classical Flute, Clarinet and Saxophone, 12 years I currently give private instruction for classical woodwinds to multiple students of all ages. I enjoy teaching woodwinds to students who are interested in all sorts of mediums, whether it be jazz, bebop, swing, classical, contemporary, chamber-focused, or new music. I tend to focus on articulation, phrasing, musicianship and site-reading as keystones to woodwind performance. Most of my students are beginner to advanced players from west Los Angeles.
